The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) |
Tel Aviv Center for Environmental Action SPNI - Tel Aviv Coalition - The Tel Aviv Coalition, coordinated by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI), has completed a very busy year of citizen activism and cooperation with the municipality to promote "an attractive urban environment…balancing and integrating between built-up areas and open space…and working to reduce environmental hazards and to promote an efficient and sustainable transportation infrastructure." The centrality of environmental issues on the agenda of Tel Aviv municipal leaders is due to the hard work of this coalition of citizen organizations. The upcoming year will highlight extensive work with the Arab population of Jaffa, particularly related to health and the environment, continued progress in public and non-motorized transportation, and improving the sustainability of the Tel Aviv area's unique natural resources – coastline, city parks and the new "Ayalon Park" at the former solid waste dump site outside the metropolitan area. |

Each neighborhood community group is working both to improve the environment of their own particular neighborhood, as well as on several issues relevant for the entire city. Sources of information such as the SJC website, newsletter and community TV will expand, reaching not only residents of Jerusalem, but Jerusalem-lovers all over the world. |

Derech Haifa Coalition SPNI – Derech Haifa Coalition - The Derech Haifa Coalition has major tasks ahead of it, working within the context of the Haifa municipality's planning processes that expose the complexity of combining political, social, economic and environmental elements. The industrial pollution and pressure from developers are particularly high in Haifa, so the Coalition's ability to succeed is very dependent upon strong and broad involvement of the public both in planning processes, and in activism once these plans are completed. Developing this capacity will form the core of the Coalition's work in 2006. |

Green Globe Awards Life and Environment – Life and Environment (L&E) is the umbrella organization for the environmental movement. The current grant is for the 2nd Annual Green Globe Awards Ceremony and accompanying public campaign. L&E will work with the public through a campaign on environment and public health and culminate in the festive evening of the Awards Ceremony. Having replaced the annual "Koach Svivati" ("Environmental Power") Conference, this awards ceremony combines creativity, environmental messages, and recognition of individuals and organizations promoting (Green Globe) or hindering (Black Globe) environmental progress. The first event in 2005 was very well received and publicized in the media (before and after the event), and is becoming an important tool for raising the public awareness and acknowledgement of environmental activity in Israel. |
